Remember my client Gul? The one who’d sold her restaurant for a considerable six figure sum.
Well, I just got off the phone to her and she’s in the process of buying a boat, learning to sail and starting a new life.
It’s truly her dream come true.
But, dreams don’t come true by just sitting around and waiting for them to happen (unless you win the Euromillions!)
This might sound strange, but most dreams start with a problem.
Specifically with solving a problem.
This is exactly what business is all about, and this is exactly what we set out to do with Gul’s restaurant Sapori Sardi.
The restaurant’s in Fulham, and whilst there are a whole load of eateries in that area, I realised that there was something missing – a gap in the market if you like.
There was nowhere to eat that was friendly, family run, informal and relaxed.
Nowhere you could go where the staff would remember your name and treat you like one of the family.
That’s what we set out to create. We filled the gap. We solved the problem.
When I first came across Gul, she was hiding away in the kitchen, despite being the perfect person to create that friendly and warm reception that the area was missing.
We pulled her out of the kitchen, and put her front of house, welcoming guests in and telling stories of Sardinia.
We gave the restaurant a rustic, homely feel by adding pictures of Piero and Gul’s Sardinian home, as well as pictures of their kids, to the restaurant walls.
We made the restaurant feel cosy and relaxed, with lower lighting and rustic furnishings.
The result – a 400% increase in turnover and an elevation the number two Italian restaurant in the whole of London – not bad for a tiny 40 seater restaurant run by a husband and wife duo.
On the first night of the relaunch, a local family thanked Gul for providing what the area so badly needed – a real neighbourhood restaurant!
We’d solved the problem, and the results are there for all to see.
