Should Smoking be Banned?

Do you agree with a total ban in places of entertainment?
Ireland will shortly pass legislation banning smoking completely in bars, restaurants and clubs, mainly on the grounds of the health and safety threat to staff working in a smoky environment. Do you think this is a good idea?

I used to supply, service and clean air cleaning equipment for clubs, offices, pubs and restaurants etc. The thick sludge in the air filters was truly disgusting and to think that that was going into peoples lungs!
I find it truly offensive and impolite that I have to endure smoke from other peoples bad habits in public places. I no longer go into pubs because of the smoke and if the restaurant or public place has inadequate air cleaning facilities or has a poor no smoking policy - I will leave with a comment!
I also do not like having to breathe in the exhaled smoke of others when walking .

I am a smoker but think this should be banned. I like to think that I am considerate around non-smokers as much as possible and even smoke outside the back door in my own home (we are both smokers and this is a decision we have made). I think I mainly agree because I would like to give up myself and it's the smoking socially that I find the hardest to give up!
I agree to an extent with Simon that people should be able to make their own decisions but do feel for the non-smokers who sit amongst the smog!

I would love for smoking to be banned ANYWHERE in public, but definitely in any public enclosed space. It would be lovely to go out and eat or have a drink without having to breathe other peoples' smoke. If people want to make bad decisions, then so be it, but I shouldn't have to put up with the results of those decisions, or restrict my social life because of them.

I am an ex smoker and giving them up was the best thing I ever did BUT I do NOT think smoking should be banned in bars and so on. I do realise that it must be awful for staff, so some good demarcation of where and under what conditions smoking is allowed would be necessary. If a bar meets the requirements - fine, it has a smoking area. if not then no smoking.
But to be honest my main reason is that I am sick of those in power telling us what we can and cannot do - people should be free to make their own decisions even if they are bad ones, the nanny state should butt out.
