I love the get-up-and-go of you all! Sticking with a dead-end job is just not an option for any of you people. Hurrah! Congratulations to Maggie for retraining as a Nutritionist after 21 years as an Accountant and Jo - think about what you love to do right now, cooking, gardening, whatever. Don't make life difficult - your interests and passions are all around you. Do email us when you've spotted them! Good Luck!

Best Wishes and thanks to everyone who voted in the poll,
Fiona

I don't know what yet, but I voted for starting up my own business. I am getting increasingly dissatisfied with being employed and working full time. I would love to work from home and have more flexibility in the hours that I work - I am currently concentrating on looking at what I want to do. Once I have worked that out, I will be halfway there!

I would like to encourage anyone who wants to switch career paths to go for it! I am 42, have been an accountant for 21 years but am currently 2 years into a 3 year course to retrain as a nutritional therapist. Once that course is complete, I will also do a training course to train as a life coach.

Yes, it's tough working full time to support myself whilst I study, but the sense of achievement makes it all worthwhile. And yes, I've had to put up with negative comments from friends, colleagues etc., but I just get on with things and don't let them discourage me. I know people who want to change their lives but who never do anything about it but whinge - that's not a good way to approach life, in my opinion. So put aside your doubts and go for it - the huge boost to your feelings of self-worth make it all worthwhile!

Finding my first job was so scary, I never wanted to leave! But after being unappreciated for 6 months then made redundant, I knew I deserved better. I'm in a job I love now, where I'm given training and loads of opportunities. But I know when the time comes to move on, I'll grab the opportunity instead of holding back.

I voted for Returning to Work but I'm not sure where I do fit! I was made redundant nearly a year ago and after taking a well-earned break started looking for work... either in what I had been doing (IT training) or something new. I'm now concentrating on the something new as I need to improve my quality of life and want to try something different. So I'm finding out about teaching English and literacy to adults and looking for work which will give me more flexibility.

I chose the first one because that's the closest to my situation. I actually set up two small businesses for myself, which I took up fully from home about 2 years ago. I haven't looked back since, as I always wanted to be a full-time mother to my 2 kids (4 and 1 yrs). However I sometimes doubt whether the two paths that I chose were actually the best ones for me, especially when opportunities are hard to come by. But as Fiona says, it was always worth risking and I'm not giving up on excelling at what I'm doing. So, never stop trying!
