Guy's Story
My husband Guy and I attended one of your courses nearly a year ago. Guy was a bit reluctant and unsure what it was all about but after reading your book I thought it might be just what he needed.
On the day you mentioned to us that you like to know how he got on...
Unfulfilled
Guy is a very creative person but totally lacking in confidence and self-esteem. He did jewellery at college and worked in the trade for years before getting disillusioned with doing repairs and unexciting work most of the time.
He also hated the commute. He packed it all in and became a warehouse manager for a company close to home. It was better money and less hours but not very fulfilling but he was 'happier' that he'd been so 7 years passed before he'd really noticed!
Creatively he was feeling very unfulfilled. To start up the jewellery again as a hobby he converted the garage in to a workshop and just made presents and commissions for family and friends.
We then went on your course and he found the day quite challenging and although we talked about it afterwards I didn't think it had had much effect. How wrong I was.
The final push
Six months later he was getting increasingly unhappy with his job and got a new but similar role with a different company. This was quite a major step for him as he is very afraid of change. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) this job was worse than the last and this was the final push he needed.
He realised he might as well have a go at making jewellery full time. If it didn't work he could always get another job and at least he would have tried. He handed in his notice and started his business 6 months ago. He made over £1,000 worth of commissions just through word of mouth for Christmas alone.
I can't remember him being this happy in the 18 years we've been together.
Finally on track
He still gets stressed by things but he's motivated and driven - finally doing what he loves. His confidence is still a little shaky at times but he now believes he can do it. Your course made him realise that he was in control of his own life, previously he never really thought it was.
