Jenny's Story

I have been taking the phrase "Success happens where preperation meets radio micopportunity" to heart just lately. My new coaching business means that I have to "get out there" to promote myself and tell people about what I do.

So, I booked a wonderful coaching session with Rita Hamill, who is a professional actress and the performance coach on Fiona's team. A major theme of our session was to learn to accept and love my own voice, and make it work for me as a coach.

I decided to write a basic ten-minute talk on coaching, and then to draw my audience towards me.

Ten Minutes

I e-mailed Rita after the Success Group meeting to say that I'd have the talk finished by Friday.

To act "as if" I had total conviction, I pinned myself to getting her the talk by noon. Noon it is, she replied. I'd scheduled time for writing this on Thursday evening, and Friday morning - and at 5pm Thursday, I took a call from Jo Philips, the presenter of a morning radio chat show on BBC Somerset Sound, asking me for some top tips on "work/life balance." This was in relation to "Work Your Proper Hours Day" on Friday 23rd Feb.

I gave an interview - ten minutes exactly! - over the telephone: then, after a much-needed debrief to my collie dog, I sat down and wrote the other ten minute talk, e-mailing it to Rita 90 minutes late.

My fabulous son, Geoff, supported me enthusiatically by getting my website, www.jtlifecoach.co.uk, up by that evening.

Google

The funny thing was, Jo Philips said they had Googled me - which is curious as my name has only started to come up when Googled in the last day or so.

I was invited back to the Somerset Sound studio last Friday to talk about Mothering Sunday, and I was warmly received and asked to return again.

Best of all, I feel amazingly comfortable being on-air - could, in fact, even grow to love it - so I look forward to doing more radio with Somerset Sound, and anyone else who is looking for a "resident" on-air life coach!
