Deal With Doubt
Thursday, September 28 2006" The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt."
The brilliant philosopher Bertrand Russell said this before his death over thirty years ago. In my experience of coaching people for twenty years, this is often true.
The vast majority of my clients over the years have been extremely intelligent – and sometimes, full of doubt. In fact, I'm full of doubt myself right now, but more of that later.
My clients have included senior business professionals, lawyers, politicians – all individuals who have worked hard to reach their positions in life.
Why, you might ask, would they come to me, or to any coach? Because, as intelligent people, they question themselves: they inquire within: they challenge themselves - to feel they are worthy of their success and responsibility. This is all well and good.
However, the danger with this line of inquiry is that it can easily descend into doubt. And you can get stuck in doubt, diminishing your power and effectiveness in the world – allowing the cocksure to race ahead. One only has to look at a few of the most powerful men in the US and UK to see this!
So, while it is a mark of intelligence to question oneself, you need to avoid paralysing yourself in the process. This is extremely common practice among the intelligentsia!
I will be dealing with this thoroughly in my new Success Groups. If you are coming along, I will treat you as one of my clients and ensure that your doubts are not destroying your chances of success.
By joining my new Group, you will be signing up for a new level of success in your life. I will coach and challenge you to proceed with less caution and much more boldness – having laid your doubts to rest.
The new Groups begin in a few weeks. Once you have registered, email me, fiona@fionaharrold.com with a succinct description of the success you'd like to achieve through the Group. And, to clarify:
- I will be taking all of the sessions,
- The maximum number of participants will be thirty.
Look forward to meeting and working with you. Oh - re my own doubt – I'll tell you all about that in the Group - I'll also have dealt with it by then too!
