Rule Number 5: Inspire Others
Tuesday, January 24 2006Dear friends,
here we have Rule No 5 - Inspire Others.
It may be not be as obvious as some of the other rules but the ability to inspire, motivate and enthuse others is vital to whatever you want to achieve in life. It's a quality that I observe to be missing in many people's approach as they focus on what they want and neglect to grasp that you may not feel the same about the fulfilment of your objectives – unless you can inspire them to.
You can bully people to do what you want, you can manipulate them, you can pay them, but you'll never get the type of true, whole-hearted contribution you get when people are won over to your cause and want to co-operate.
As my Dad used to say – if you want someone to do something, the best way is to get them to want to do it. This is precisely what Chapter 5 is all about and by the end you'll be in no doubt how to inspire others brilliantly.
When you follow this Rule, you'll be more powerful, effective and – inspiring in all that you do! It's a quality that each successful person I spoke to for The 7 Rules of Success exuded in abundance, particularly the four individuals in this chapter.
As with all the Rules, it's all in the application and over the next few weeks I'll be coming up with suggestions and ways of supporting you to apply the Rules to your own life for your own success. I'll be focusing on this in detail in my workshop in February. You can read more about it online here.
If you've already booked/as soon as you book, email me with a succinct (50 words!) description of what you'd like to get out of the day and which Rule you feel you may be weakest on, fiona@fionaharrold.com.
In this chapter you'll see how:
- Inspiring others has given the wonderful Carmel McConnell the resources and finances to provide breakfast for over 100,000 inner city underprivileged school children through her charity The Magic Breakfast.
- Inspiring others is the secret behind the amazing Emma Harrison who runs a company with over 1500 employees, chairs three other companies, heads a charity committee for the NSPCC, starred in the recent Channel 4 Make Me a Million series, is mum to four young children - and built a personal fortune of over £50 million!
- Inspiring others allowed lawyer Peter McDonnell to persuade the Irish government to make Ireland the first country to introduce a national ban on tobacco smoking in the workplace and is the reason he is Europe's leading lawyer in the legal battle with the tobacco industry giants.
- Inspiring others is what glamorous theatre impresario, Sally Greene, attributes her success with the Old Vic theatre to - and persuading Kevin Spacey to be artistic director - and give up Hollywood for Waterloo!
