Rule Number 3: Do More

Tuesday, January 10 2006

Dear friends,

my favourite rule that all the achievers demonstrate in my new book, The 7 Rules of Success, has to be this one, Do More!

Busy dayEvery single person I spoke to over the past three years in my research does more than the average person: they make more of an effort, do more work, knock on more doors, make more calls, whatever it takes, uncomplainingly, until they get the results they're after.

Interestingly, new research published this week suggests the only path to real satisfaction and happiness is hard work!

Academics at Gothenburg University in Sweden spent three years trying to discover what puts a smile on peoples' faces and concluded that working hard to reach a goal often brings more self-satisfaction than the goal itself.

Research leader Dr Bengt Bruelde says, "Striving to achieve something by work gives a purpose to life and this is the meaning of true happiness."

So, not only are you likely to meet with success by doing more, you'll be happier too! In this chapter you'll meet a woman who was propelled into doing more by the sudden death of her husband leaving her to provide for two small children – Trisha Mason now runs one of France's most successful estate agents with a turnover of £7 million: a chap who went from a barman and regional sports reporter to one of the UK's busiest and highest paid entertainers – Eamonn Holmes: a young woman with a bright idea for a shop, but no previous business experience or money who now owns the fabulous Sweaty Betty chain of women's sportswear shops, Tamara Hill-Norton: and a 29 year-old who, thirteen years ago was told by his sixth form teacher - and former Education Minister – Estelle Morris that he'd be "a nobody," and is now worth £40 million – that's Jojar Dhinsa.

I hope this chapter puts a spring in your step – meeting these individuals certainly did for me. There’s an extract from it below and I'll be looking at applying this rule to your life, along with all the others, in London on February 18th. It will be a fabulous start to the year! You can read more about it and book online here.
