The Unlived Life

Tuesday, November 22 2005

Dear friend,

many of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Fear and its partner Resistance.

Reflecting on lifeLate at night have you experienced a vision of the person you might become, the work you could accomplish, the realised being you were meant to be? Are you a writer who doesn't write, a painter who doesn't paint, an entrepreneur who never starts a venture? Then you know what Fear and Resistance is.

In their book, Life Lessons: How Our Mortality Can Teach Us About Life And Living, authors Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and David Kessler talk about the lessons they learnt through their work with the dying and those who have survived life-threatening illnesses. And the most important lesson we can learn from those that have looked death in the eye? To let go of fear.

"So much is possible when fear no longer holds us captive. To transcend fear, we have to practise. If you tackle your secret passions, you will not face regrets of a life half lived. We all have our dreams. But, sadly, we are also filled with reasons why we shouldn't fulfil them. Life is over sooner than we think."

Is that what it takes? Do we have to stare death in the face to make us stand up and confront Fear and Resistance? Do Fear and Resistance have to cripple and disfigure our lives before we wake up to their existence?

If tomorrow morning by some stroke of magic every frustrated soul woke up with the power to take the first step toward pursuing his or her dreams, every shrink, and many coaches, would be out of business!

The alcohol and tobacco industries would collapse, along with the junk food and much of the pharmaceutical industries. Domestic abuse would reduce, as would obesity, migraine headaches, road rage and every other rage.

Look in your own heart. Unless I'm crazy, right now a small voice is piping up telling you, as it has done many times before, to follow the calling that is yours and yours alone.

My work as a Coach and author allows me to assist people to live out their unlived life, to bring forth their sleeping potential. I've seen and heard of all sorts of medical complaints clear up and vanish once people address what's really eating away at them.

I've worked with individuals who have looked at death and come back to life knowing what they need to do, ready to confront Fear and Resistance and any other obstacle that stands in the way of their dreams.

Whatever your situation, if any of this chimes with you, do something about it now. Don't wait for any New Year Resolutions, a new moon, or a better time. Do something today to confront your fear and resistance.

Come and spend some time with me on the 10th of December at my Reinvent Yourself Seminar (see here for more info) when I’ll be dealing with all of this.

In doing so you'll be ensuring that you are on track to live out the vision of the person you could become. I guarantee you will thank yourself that you did. Once you book, e-mail me at fiona@fionaharrold.com with a brief (no more than 50 words) description of what you'd like to address on the day, so I'm already familiar with you before we meet.

Look forward to meeting you. Until then, I've compiled five steps to get you moving in the right direction!
