The Secret of Great Communication
Tuesday, February 22 2005I hope this finds you well. Our theme this week is great communication. The wonderful Coach Francine Kaye works with private clients and organisations to teach them this fundamental skill. I've asked her to outline for us her five top tips for great communication, which you'll find below. I've pushed her to identify the one tip that is the key. Here it is - learn to listen well. Listen and really "get" the other person's communication.
I can see how crucial this is and how missing it often is from everyday life: whether it's in our own life or on our favourite soaps, relationships suffer and die without quality communication. If only Den Watts, Chrissie, Zoe, Dennis and Sharon had access to Francine and had learnt how to listen better, the plot of Eastenders could have been so different recently!
Even Tony Blair has a lot to learn about listening. I hear his greatest fear re the upcoming Election is whether Labour supporters, particularly young women, will bother to turn out to vote. Why? Because he didn't listen to the majority of the people in the country who were against his war on Iraq.
When Britons turned out to express their feelings on Feb 15th 2003, in record numbers, he took no notice. He didn't listen. His relationship with his supporters and the general public was irreparably damaged. Never mind Alastair Campbell. The man needs Francine - and fast!

Over to Francine.
