Be Gorgeous
Tuesday, July 19 2005Dear friend,
I hope this finds you well. This week we're looking at what it takes to be gorgeous, to feel attractive and be a sensuous person. Sensuality, refinement, elegance, an appreciation of the finer things in life and simply making the best of oneself are qualities more valued and taught in some cultures than others.
Let's be honest, the French, Italians and Spanish have a relaxed sartorial flair not usually associated with other nations, Brits included. And an appreciation of good food, fine wine and even opera seem to go hand in hand with such an approach and appreciation of life.
The Slow Food movement, which originated in France, is part of this respect for the sensuous experience of delicious, life affirming food; savouring the experience in preference to bolting down a synthetic, hormone packed burger. In fact, fast food outlets and McDonalds find almost universal resistance in Europe.
None of this is about money: we all know wealthy individuals who don't live a stylish, sensuous life. And we all know others who live on a budget yet bring elegance to every part of their lives.
My Dad, for example, always used a cup and saucer at home, insisting this enhanced the taste and experience of a simple cup of tea. Huge, ugly mugs were shunned by him! Our fascination with elegance and refinement was evidenced by the phenomenal success of Kathleen Tessaro’s 2003 book, Elegance, a novel and self-help manual rolled into one.
If living a more sensuous life and feeling more gorgeous (men: think handsome!), appeal to you, let me introduce you to our wonderful new Image and Style Coach, Emma Ford. Emma has an instinctive feel for how to cultivate gorgeousness and our own personal style and is a truly delightful person as well. I can only assume she was French in her last life!
Seriously, she written a brilliant guide for us all, the new Be Gorgeous online course. Have a look at the extract from the first Module below and you'll see for yourself. Emma is also available for personal consultations so drop her an email at emma@fionaharrold.com.
