Slow Down

Tuesday, November 8 2005

Dear friend,

a truly balanced lifestyle must include time to switch off from work and other concerns, but even when we're at home, many of us find it hard to let go and relax.

GRAPHICThe inability to switch off from our jobs can have negative results on our performance in all areas of our lives - last year, a study by Hewlett-Packard found that 62% of people questioned checked work-related messages at home or during holidays.

Yet these constant distractions were found to be as harmful as sleep deprivation, in some cases causing an IQ drop of up to 10 points.

So it seems obvious that being able to switch off and set clear boundaries boosts productivity when we do return to work. Although some of us have pressure from bosses or deadlines that make long hours a fact of life, it is important to schedule in leisure time and to commit to keeping it clear of anything work-related, for the sake of our own wellbeing as well as our performance.

As Tory party wannabe leader David Cameron said recently, "it's not all about quantity of money, it's about quality of life"!

Our brilliant Lifestyle Coach Paula Farrell knows all about coaching her clients to increase quality of life. If you're looking for ways to balance leisure and work so that you get the most from both, she's ideally placed to help you configure your life so that you get the maximum out of it.

Until the end of this week, she's offering a generous discount on the initial one hour session, reducing the price to £50, so do contact her at paula@fionaharrold.com.
