Relaunch Your Life - With No Excuses
Tuesday, February 1 2005I hope this finds you well. Last week's Newsletter brought Sue Clarke many emails from members all complaining that they felt too old to change. Sue has a great many clients over 50, so I'm afraid this is one excuse she just doesn't buy!
Life has changed dramatically over the past 25 years and where once we would say "life begins at 40," this is now actually truer of 50. Indeed some say 50 is the new 30! The fact is, being 50 nowadays means something entirely different from our parent's generation, and being youthful, vibrant and inventive is available to all of us, at any age.
I'm actually writing this in my favourite local café, Carluccio's on London's Fulham Road, opened recently by Antonio Carluccio, who is pushing 70. In the past year he's opened at least 5 others, all hugely successful. I'm on my way to see the new Clint Eastwood film, Million Dollar Baby, currently being raved about by critics and cinema-goers alike and tipped for a raft of Oscars. The Evening Standard says "Eastwood has never done anything better as an actor or director. He is at the peak of his powers."
I believe Mr Eastwood celebrated his 70th birthday some time ago. Is it just me or is 70 the new 50? Seriously.
So, do keep up with the changing times and make sure you're seeing yourself accurately. And finally, who is the most popular broadcaster in Britain? It's just been announced that it's 66 year-old Terry Wogan, with over eight million listeners per week to his Wake Up To Wogan Radio 2 show. Despite passing official retirement he still has the energy to come into work every weekday for the two-hour show, which starts at 7.30am. In the same half hour he can play Joss Stone along with Elton John, the Beatles to Jamie Cullum. Now that's cool.
