I need more confidence to sell at work

Answer by Francine Kaye

Lorraine asks:

I have worked in a bank for over 25 years, but the last few years everything has become, selling banking products, loans, life cover etc.

I never find the confidence to ask customers if they would be interested in any of the banks products etc and to try and make a sale. I feel passed by as the youngsters seem to do well reaching targets etc and earning more money then me.

How can I be more confident in approaching people?

Francine says:

Sounds like you are really ready to make yourself wrong here. However here's another perspective I'd like you to try on.

Banks, like every other customer based business are in competition with other banks to offer their customers the best possible products and services. If you understand this then you'll know that offering your customers more than just a basic service is essential to stay in business and retain staff like you.

Your job is to make sure you fully understand the benefits that these products and services offer. I think this is a real matter of integrity for you. When you truly believe that what your bank has to offer will make a real difference to your customers lives if they use these products, you see that it would actually be quite negligent of you not to raise your customers awareness of them.

It's not a matter of your confidence in approaching people, its more about your confidence in what you are offering them. Get to know what's on offer and use your integrity and intuition to match up these products and services to the right customers and you will be the one ahead of the race!
