Bounce Back Britain
I’ve asked our brilliant motivational Coach, Mike Blissett to share his thoughts on Bouncing Back and Staying Optimistic. Mike is a doer – and one of the most irrepressible people I know. Onwards!

Bounce Back Britain
If your life was a book, and you were the writer, what would the present chapter be about? Motivational speaker and author, Brian Tracy describes life as being like a book, each period being a chapter that we write.
As a coach and trainer I get to meet many different people from all walks of life all over the UK, and whilst we’ve all seen the news reports explaining the recession from every conceivable angle, what I hear are personal insights, person to person; how it’s been for the individual. Very often in life it’s not so much the events that shape us, but what did in response to that event that counts.
>>opportunityisnowhere<<
What words do you see joined together? ‘Opportunity is no where’ or ‘opportunity is now here’? Is your glass half full, or half empty?
Work through the following 5 action steps and begin noticing the differences straight away, and once started the forwards momentum will just build and build. After all, better results breed better results – or in the words of Gandhi, ‘be the change you wish to see in the world’.
1. Study Success
Who do you look up to, admire, want to emulate? In NLP it’s called ‘modelling excellence’. Not copying, but studying, learning from, being inspired by. Don’t think too long, just choose a role model – you can always change them or add a couple more to your list later on.
In 2003, when I began my coaching career, my role model was Fiona. I read her books, studied the online courses, and attended her workshops. I wanted to learn from the best, and learning from someone such as her, once I then took action based on who I was and my point of view, I began to get similar results.
So, who would your role model be? Remember, modelling is a study, not a copy. You will still be you. You are unique. Once you find 1, 2 or 3 role models to learn from, whether from a book, videos, or if you get the chance in person as I was lucky enough to do with Fiona, your life will change – big time.
2. Change The Record
You’ve heard of the proverbial scratched record – and I’m not talking vinyl. The question is; have you become one? You know, the person that when moaning just goes on, and on, and on, and on. They just don’t know when to stop. Because if this is who you’ve become, now really is the best time to change the record! That’s it. From this moment on, if you haven’t got anything constructive, positive, or uplifting to say, then keep quiet until you do have something better to say. Nobody likes listening to a moaner, and the first person who always has to listen to you, is you!
What do you want you want to be saying instead? Life is good, life is getting better, I’m looking to the future; my life is going places? Decide, and start talking about it today.
3. Smile More
This may sound like a silly step, but I promise you it can be one of the toughest. To clarify; a tight, grimace like ‘hey stupid’ kind of grin does not make a smile!
A smile is from the heart; it’s natural, a window to the soul. As a tree is only as strong as its routes, so for a smile to be real it should travel from the heart via every cell in your body, in your eyes, glowing in your cheeks, and then finally appearing on your mouth – the very last thing we’ll see is your teeth. Smiling, as with yawning, and sadly moaning, is infectious. Once you cultivate and grow one happy idea, so another will want to cling on and get some of your feel good factor, too. People will want to join in, and very quickly you’ll have created an unstoppable force.
4. Stick a label on it.
Begin today to label everything in your life from a positive point of view. This will saturate your every waking moment and re-programme your mind to focus on the positive. As you would label a refreshing drink ‘delicious’, you could also label your day in the same way. What would a delicious day look like for you? What would happen? Who would you meet? For example, if you label exercise as ‘hard work’ you won’t stick at it, however if you label it as ‘fun/ exhilarating/my secret recharge’ you will. Simply with this step, it works. Label your life today, and begin with words like fabulous, amazing, brilliant, top, and wonderful – the stage is yours.
5. Give Yourself A Break!
How hard are you on yourself? When do you give yourself ‘downtime’? In fact, what would downtime be for you; a holiday, away day, a walk in the park, new hair-do, coffee and a good read in a coffee shop? A couple of attributes I’ve noticed so many very successful people demonstrate is one the one hand to work really hard towards their success, and then reward themselves with the pamper that says ‘well done’ to them. What would it be for you?
One thing so many people miss however is that they need to begin giving themselves a break now. Begin as you need to go on. If the prize is so far off ahead in the future and you just can’t touch it you’ll eventually give up. As goals need to be achievable, rewards need to be regular and attainable. Make whatever you plan to do to pamper yourself happens soon, and happens regularly.
Begin writing your book of life today…and make it amazing!

Thanks, Mike. And if this is what gives you your bounce, I’m going to pay attention!
Happy Easter in Florence,
Adieu!
xx Fiona
Hi Mike,
I have found this site so very inspiring and your article has encapsulated the whole essence of what this site is offering.
Before I started to think about taking a course in ‘Life Coaching’ things have happened in my life as you have described but I did not realise that I was onto something and thought that these occurances were flukes but now I realise with relish that I can capatalise on positive thinking with these techniques where this site and yourself show us how. I am getting very excited.
I am working on ‘Me’ now and it feels great….Yes it is going to take time and commitment but I am starting to see what ‘Focus’ and ‘Positive Thought’ is starting to bring to me, within such a short time, I am inspired to keep it going and as you say Mike ‘Momentum’ is Key.
Thank you so Very Much Mike you have taken my today from a Very Good day to a Brilliant day.
Have your say!
