Believe, Believe, Believe

Confidence is a resolute state of mind by which you believe nothing is impossible.’
Dr John Eliot

The number one advantage you could have in life is fabulous, unlimited faith in yourself. Am I right?

It’s the most common request I get from clients keen to move on up in their lives.

And it’s the single quality you admire, or envy, in others. Yes? It undoubtedly explains a lot of the success people have in the world, for good or bad.

The fact is, you just have to have it to push yourself on in life and achieve what you really want

I think you already know that.

I’ve come up with some new tips on how you can fuel the faith in yourself. Go for it! Why ever not?

1. Acknowledge Your Successes

Thumbs UpFirst, congratulate yourself on your successes. It’s so easy to first, undermine and then, undersell yourself – to yourself and others.

Fuel your self-belief by making a list headed, “Reasons why I deserve to succeed…

See and feel your self-belief soar as you remind yourself of all the evidence that exists to qualify you for that role or next stage in your life. Believe, Believe, Believe! Build unwavering faith in yourself!

2. Give Up Your History

Stop looking at the past for excuses in the present. Stop complaining. It’s time to stop blaming, complaining and justifying why you haven’t created the results you want in your life. It is YOU who creates the quality of the life you lead and the results you produce.

Look at what you are complaining about. I’m fat. I’m tired. I can’t get out of debt. I won’t ever get a better job. I can’t stand the relationship I have with my sister. I’ll never find a soulmate in life. Really examine your complaints.

More than likely you can do something about them. They are not about other people, other things, or other events. They are about YOU. Face
the truth and take action for the long term.

You have to be willing to change your behaviour if you want a different outcome. You have to be willing to take the risks necessary to get what you want. If you’ve already taken an initial step in the right direction, now’s the time to plan additional steps to keep moving you forward, faster. Take a look at what isn’t working out so well. What are you doing or not doing to create those experiences?

Isn’t it a great relief to know that you can make your life what you want it to be? Isn’t it wonderful that your successes do not depend on someone else?

So if you need just one thing to do different today than you did yesterday, make it this: Commit to taking 100% responsibility for every aspect of your life. Decide to make changes, one step at a time. Once you start the process you’ll discover it’s much easier to get what you want by taking control of your thoughts, your visualizations, and your actions!

3. What Are You Scared Of?

Caroline Myss Caroline Myss, New York Times best-selling US author (Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing), says that the number one thing that controls you and holds you back will be your fear of being humiliated.

Take the test. Write down this heading, “Five ways the fear of being humiliated has controlled/controls me is…” and see what comes up.

You may be surprised at how much power you’re giving to others over your decisions and actions.

4. Become Of Service

Who do you serve other than yourself? Make self-belief less about you and more about your service to others.

Years ago when I was something of a political activist, I was fearless in speaking on the radio or in front of people – because it was for the cause, a higher cause. I never stopped to question whether I could or couldn’t do something. It just had to be done. What’s your higher cause? Who and what do you want to serve that calls you into action and out of yourself? Live inspired by purpose and make your contribution. GO, GO, GO!

5. Demonstrate Faith In Yourself

How? Take action. Action is the single difference between those who do and those who don’t believe in themselves. Self-belief and taking action are not guarantees of success but an approach to life that improves your chances of success. It also makes you unstoppable in searching for ways to make things work and life will be far more interesting. Don’t take my word for it!

A lot of people have opinions on Britain’s Got Talent right now, and the fate of the contestants (like Susan Boyle) who fell short of the winning place – perhaps if they’d entered with a bloody-minded and joyous self-belief, they’d have made more credible candidates, instead of hoping to acquire approval by being in the contest?

Or at least not been such roadkill!

    Just a thought! ;)

In the past years with bad relationships I’ve lost myself. Reading your articles on believe, I am going to start doing things for me and to believe in myself that I can acheive my goals. No more living my life through other people.

It will not be easy for me, but I have to have faith that I will make the right decisions for my wellbeing.

    Hi there,
I think you can only work with what you’ve got at the time. To be fair to the contestants ‘bloody minded and joyous self belief’ can’t be maufactured at will. I had to work on my own self belief for a good few years before I developed strong enough muscles to become my own locus of control! But pointing other people in the right direction? Well, as a coach that has become my passion!
