Whether or not to start a family

I just cannot decide whether to start a family and have been procrastinating for 2 years since getting married.
I am 37 and my husband is 45 so time is of the essence. I’m afraid I wouldn’t cope with work & family ( I have a well paid fairly high pressure job) but if I stop or reduce work I don’t think we could maintain our lifestyle ( I am the major earner). Then I feel very superficial for worrying about money when a child is obviously much more important.
Part of me just wants to leave things to chance, then deal with it – but I’m naturally such a planner!

You really need to listen closely to your intuition here. Having children is the most life changing decision you will ever make and you must be absolutely sure.
To make this decision its imperative that you know what is most important to you. If your lifestyle and your financial security is what you value most, then don't feel pressured by society into imagining that you are superficial. You have already made a huge decision in getting married. That's certainly not superficial.
Ask yourself, "does the strength of our relationship rely upon us having children?" Millions of people find they get more than enough satisfaction from a great marriage and fulfilling career.
So, listen to yourself, talk to your husband, do what you want to do and be happy!
