Anything Is Possible

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.’
President-Elect Barack Obama

Barack ObamaBarack Obama is the next President of the USA. Hip, Hip, Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

His victory is momentous. His achievement transcends politics. It will change America and the world. It will change the way Americans, black and white, see themselves.

Political correspondents are grasping this seismic change, saying how it will affect Americans ‘in their guts,’ changing their perception of themselves.

They will feel equal to the family in the White House. If a black man from a broken home, who never knew his father, can be President of the USA… anything’s possible.

There are people voting for him who, fifty years ago, were unable to vote, or eat at a McDonald’s (no jokes please!) because of the colour of their skin. Today, they’re waking up to a black man running the White House.

That is truly awesome. Feel that excitement in your guts, because today and in the days ahead, that’s the feeling many, many people on the planet, in America, and beyond, will be feeling.

Take this opportunity to join in and feel your own vast potential and possibilities. Swell with the excitement of it, savour and hold on to the taste of it.

Consider what you really want. Don’t join the doom and gloomers who will always have an excuse.

Today it’s ‘the credit crunch,’ ‘square-mile stress’ or ‘the dollar to pound exchange.’

As Barack Obama says, ‘Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.’

Fiona, while I understand the excitement about a black man becoming president of the United States for the reasons you mentioned, are you suggesting that all positive people should agree with his politics? After the election I couldn’t join in with the jubilation because I just don’t agree with his politics. Nothing personal. I thought you always said that you should be authentic, stick to what you believe in and not simply follow the crowd. Am I just a “doom and gloomer”?

Have your say!
