Tales of Reinvention: Caroline’s story
Having read your regular newsletter for several weeks, I’m delighted to tell you that I’ve landed a fabulous new job in London, which I start in a few weeks.
The content of your recent newsletter – “Who do you think you are?” – resonates soundly and represents invaluable advice: whatever you believe of yourself, you will be.
At 42, I took a backward step, careerwise, to spend more time with my partner up here in the East Midlands.I’ve held an interesting job in research at a local university, but have known (deep
down) that I can achieve much more.Yet, having done the job for several months, I had started to limit my self-expectations, resulting in my dampening my natural, proactive spirit and showing very little initiative in my work.
At 43, however, luck stepped in:I was asked to attend an interview for a fabulous job back in London – at over double my salary!I doubted my ability to land the job, but went for the interviews anyway – and enjoyed them!Somehow, everything seemed right. I was successful and now can’t wait to start. It looks as though life will be great: I’ll spend weekdays in a ‘pied-a-terre’ in South Kensington; weekends in the glorious Leicestershire countryside.
I’m determined to build on this remarkable move.
Caroline
