Heather's Story

By Katherine Brown | No Comment

I write to you from  South America, at the start of my round the world trip. I’m 32 and I left behind nothing but slightly worried parents and a friendly northern home, Manchester, that will always await. But I decided a few months ago that the start of my New Year would be spent somewhere different -  Rio, Copacobana Beach, to be precise.

I had done the degree, worked the past 5/6 years, lived a London lifestyle and had a few relationships along the way. It was now or never, a time for change. With an apprehensive and exciting feeling I bought a round the world ticket, South America, Australia, the Far East. Since arriving in South America, I have walked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, visited the Sacred Valley, stayed with a local Peruvian family on Lake Titicaca, drank Pisco Sour on the beach and spent Xmas dancing the tango in Buenos Aires!

This is a trip I’m doing solo, although friends have joined me along the way for a few weeks. This is my adventure, my time. It is with a renewed confidence that I sit by myself in a Peruvian local restaurant with only a few words of Spanish, eating a local dish of Quinoa soup and watching a different culture go by. It´s like looking down into that ocean or sea and wanting to jump and once you do nothing is the same or to be feared, knowing that I changed my life, am seeing new places, people, visiting countries that I never imagined and that half the world may not ever get the opportunity of visiting.

With thanks to my courageous heart to go out there and Fiona Harrold….life coaching takes you to a new place.

What inspired me, what pushed me?  Everything. Spending time with a very inspirational life coach, sitting on the soulless underground, an urge to see beautiful places while I still can, the drunk homeless at Camden station, the lifeless bank manager, etc.

2004 should be the year for all your plans, without hesitation make that decision. What we need is confidence, an understanding of ourselves, and the right support. With these your challenges will not be troublesome.

I hope this brings you inspiration to take that leap into the unknown. As Nelson Mandela said…”As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others

Happy New Year.
